These flights include daylight and the recently amended night flight operations, flying under 55 lbs, less than 100 mph, below 400 ft, maintaining visual line of sight, and within authorized airspace. In 2020, new drone laws were published in the 2020 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), and most sUAS flights for commercial drone use are covered by Part 107. Since 2016, drone operation has grown exponentially and it was apparent that new rules needed to be established to regulate the expanding industry. The purpose of the drone license is to ensure that the pilot is familiar with and safely abides by the established FAA drone regulations for commercial drone use. A commercial Remote Pilot Certificate, or “drone license” allows a person to get paid for flying a drone. In addition to outlining the operational limitations of sUAS, Part 107 provided requirements for the issuance of a commercial Remote Pilot Certificate with a sUAS rating for commercial drone pilots. These Federal Aviation Regulations, or FARs, were the FAA’s first official rules governing commercial drone use. The new drone laws are also known as Part 107. The FAA first published new drone laws, known as the FAA drone regulations, in June 2016. Whenever a sUAS is being launched for commercial drone use, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires that the operator possess a specific authorization, most commonly in the form of a Part 107 Certificate. Keep going until your work or study session is done. Grab lunch, read a book, or go for a quick walk. Somewhere between 15 and 30 minutes is normally right it depends on how you feel. Use the timer to keep yourself honest.Īfter a total of four Pomodoros, take a longer break. Basically, any of the things you're not allowed to do when you're working are now fair game. You can stretch, get coffee, or check social media. Take a five-minute break to clear your head. When the timer rings, you've done one Pomodoro. (You should really have everything silenced while you work.) Ignore any distractions or notifications from emails, texts, or the like. Get to work, and don't stop until the timer rings. For example, for me, each section of this article is getting assigned one or two 25-minute chunks, depending on how long it is and how much of the information I need to update. Bigger tasks will need to be split into smaller chunks. Pick a task that you think should take roughly 25 minutes to accomplish. The basic process is normally described as something like this:ĭecide what you're going to do. Over the past few decades, the technique has become more popular. Since the Italian for tomato is "pomodoro," he called his system the Pomodoro Technique after the original little tomato timer. And it helped-he was instantly more productive, at least when the timer was running.Īfter a bit of tweaking, testing, and refining, Cirillo settled on 25 minutes of work followed by a five-minute break, repeated four times, as the best balance for him. Cirillo started by setting it for 10 minutes and trying to just work for the 10 minutes until the timer rang. Inspiration came from a small tomato-shaped kitchen timer. He kept getting distracted and losing focus (and he didn't even have Instagram or TikTok), so he went looking for a way to keep his mind on track. Even I can keep typing that long.įrancesco Cirillo developed the Pomodoro Technique in the 1980s when he was in college in Italy and struggling to study. I'm just seven minutes into my current work block, but I know I only have to wait 18 more minutes until my next cup of coffee. That's long enough that you can stay engaged and make real progress, without feeling like it's a grind, while the 5-minute breaks, which never feel far off, give you a chance to freely check Twitter or look at some emails without overly disrupting your workflow. The work blocks are just 25 minutes long. What makes the Pomodoro Technique so effective is just how easy it is to implement. I'm using it right now to write this article. As a professional writer, it's the tool I bust out whenever I need to hit a deadline or just get work done without dawdling. While it didn't single-handedly get me through my college degrees, it helped me get better grades with less effort. I've used the Pomodoro Technique (or variations on it that we'll look at later) for more than a decade. After that, you take a 15- to 30-minute break, depending on how you feel. Here's what you do: You set a timer for 25 minutes, work until it's up, then take a 5-minute break-and repeat the whole process three more times. The Pomodoro Technique sounds unbelievably basic, but it works far better than you'd think. Toggl Track for combining Pomodoro with time-tracking Session for the best possible Pomodoro app for Apple users MarinaraTimer for a shareable web-based Pomodoro timer Pomodor for a simple web-based Pomodoro timer So, let's look at the best Pomodoro timers. While any timer (or timer app) will work for the Pomodoro Technique, a dedicated Pomodoro app can make the already simple technique even simpler by automatically alternating between work and break periods, tracking how many different periods you've completed, and generally just smoothing out the hassle of winding up a manual timer or constantly checking the clock. In this tutorial, we will review the concept of VASCAR, a method that police use for measuring the speed of moving objects using distance and timestamps. Looking for the source code to this post? Jump Right To The Downloads Section OpenCV Vehicle Detection, Tracking, and Speed Estimation Be sure to pick up a copy of the book if you enjoy today’s tutorial. This book shows you how to push the limits of the Raspberry Pi to build real-world Computer Vision, Deep Learning, and OpenCV Projects. Note: Today’s tutorial is actually a chapter from my new book, Raspberry Pi for Computer Vision. Let’s take a ride of our own and learn how to estimate vehicle speed using a Raspberry Pi and Intel Movidius NCS. I sincerely hope it will make a difference in your neighborhood. Once in the cloud, you can provide the shareable link to anyone you choose. Estimates the speed of a vehicle and stores the evidence in the cloud (specifically in a Dropbox folder).Detects vehicles in video using a MobileNet SSD and Intel Movidius Neural Compute Stick (NCS).In this tutorial, we’ll build an OpenCV project that: In most cases, the answer is unfortunately “no” - we have to look out for ourselves and our families by being careful as we walk in the neighborhoods we live in.īut what if we could catch these reckless neighborhood miscreants in action and provide video evidence of the vehicle, speed, and time of day to local authorities? When there is a speed bump, they speed up almost as if they are trying to catch some air! These drivers disregard speed limits, crosswalk areas, school zones, and “children at play” signs altogether. Many of us live in apartment complexes or housing neighborhoods where ignorant drivers disregard safety and zoom by, going way too fast. This tutorial is inspired by PyImageSearch readers who have emailed me asking for speed estimation computer vision solutions.Īs pedestrians taking the dog for a walk, escorting our kids to school, or marching to our workplace in the morning, we’ve all experienced unsafe, fast-moving vehicles operated by inattentive drivers that nearly mow us down. I highly recommend selling your car to Algo or having them buyout your lease return. In this tutorial, you will learn how to use OpenCV and Deep Learning to detect vehicles in video streams, track them, and apply speed estimation to detect the MPH/KPH of the moving vehicle. The day after I was able to finally get the manufacturer to give the payoff amount on a three way call the truck pulled up took the car and handed me a check. They honored their offer even though it took 2 months (MMR May have gone down in those 2 mos I’m not sure). They were super helpful every step of the way. In my case, it was a decedent vehicle so it’s took me 2 months to procure the legals I needed in order to consummate the transaction. After you start the transaction, anytime you call they know who you are and your information is at their finger tips no matter who you speak with. They made the entire transaction from start to finish a great experience. I have to say every single person I spoke with at Algo was not only helpful, they also knew what they were talking about. Having been in the wholesale car business for over a decade I know a thing or two about car transactions. I’ve done thousands of car transactions highly recommend Would use them again, when its time to sell another car. Overall, I had a very positive experience with them. During the pickup there is no renegotiation, so basically, if your car does not match the description, they would probably leave, and, hopefully, send you back your title (I think at that time they would charge you some processing fee + mail expenses for incorrect car description). But having a check does not really mean that you are getting payed they can recall it in the next 3 days, so de-facto there is no difference (but Carvana might sound a bit more reputable at this point). Carvana, on contrary, takes your title only when they hand you a check. The one quite frightening and surprising part is that they want you to ship your title to them a day or two before your car gets picked up and you are getting payed. However, the initial offer was $200 lower, but it is negotiable. SO I've compared them with Carvana, and their offer came almost $500 higher than Carvana. On the average, however, the porosity and permeability of rocks decrease as their depth below land surface increases the pores and cracks in rocks at great depths are closed or greatly reduced in size because of the weight of overlying rocks. Rocks that yield freshwater have been found at depths of more than 6,000 feet, and salty water has come from oil wells at depths of more than 30,000 feet. Conversely, a porous sandstone may lie hundreds or thousands of feet below the land surface and may yield hundreds of gallons per minute of water. A very dense granite that will yield little or no water to a well may be exposed at the land surface. The pressure of water from an artesian well can be quite dramatic.Ī relationship does not necessarily exist between the water-bearing capacity of rocks and the depth at which they are found. If a well is drilled into this "pressurized" aquifer, the internal pressure might (depending on the ability of the rock to transport water) be enough to push the water up the well and up to the surface without the aid of a pump, sometimes completely out of the well. In this case, the rocks surrounding the aquifer confines the pressure in the porous rock and its water. This is an example of a confined aquifer. There might be a confining layer of less porous rock both above and below the porous layer. Sometimes the porous rock layers become tilted in the earth. Learn the basics about water using our Water Primers! A Primer on Water (PDF)A Primer on Ground Water (PDF)Ground water and the Rural Homeowner You can see this in the two drawings at the bottom of the diagram, which show a close-up of how water is stored in between underground rock particles. The "unsaturated zone" above the water table (the gray area) still contains water (after all, plants' roots live in this area), but it is not totally saturated with water. In the diagram below, you can see how the ground below the water table (the blue area) is saturated with water. In fact, pumping your well too much can even cause your neighbor's well to run dry if you both are pumping from the same aquifer. Pumping too much water too fast draws down the water in the aquifer and eventually causes a well to yield less and less water and even run dry. The rate of recharge is not the same for all aquifers, though, and that must be considered when pumping water from a well. Precipitation eventually adds water ( recharge) into the porous rock of the aquifer. Wells can be drilled into the aquifers and water can be pumped out. When a water-bearing rock readily transmits water to wells and springs, it is called an aquifer. These rocks have different porosity and permeability characteristics, which means that water does not move around the same way in all rocks below ground. At the beach, the level of the water table is always at the same level as the ocean, which is just below the surface of the beach.Īs you may have read, most of the void spaces in the rocks below the water table are filled with water. In our sand hole example, you have essentially dug a "well" that exposes the water table, with an aquifer beneath it. The saturated area beneath the water table is called an aquifer, and aquifers are huge storehouses of water. The upper surface of this water-filled area, or "zone of saturation", is called the water table. Have you ever dug a hole at the beach and watched as it partially filled with water from the underlying sand? This is a great way to illustrate the concept of how the ground, if it is permeable enough, can hold water but still stay solid. Groundwater is one of our most valuable resources-even though you probably never see it or even realize it is there. The upper surface of this zone of saturation is called the water table. A hole dug at the beach illustrates the concept of how the ground, if it is permeable enough, can hold water. Lunar eclipses are easily observed from any location where the moon is visible, so a visit to an observatory or access to a telescope is not necessary. Whether we schedule/hold the session will depend on the specific timing and circumstances of the eclipse, and of course, the weather. If a total eclipse of the Moon is visible from the Triad, Cline Observatory will consider holding a public session to view the eclipse. Solar eclipse glasses/viewers that allow you to safely view the sun are available at GTCC Bookstores or at Cline Observatory Friday night viewing sessions. If it's cloudy in the Triad on eclipse day, you can monitor eclipse livestreaming sites online during the day to see what the eclipse looks like along the line of annularity. If conditions allow, safe solar-filtered telescopes will be set up for viewing, and we will have several stations with other safe viewing devices. Status updates will be posted on the observatory’s X (formerly Twitter) page and GTCC's social media. to 3 p.m., in Parking Lot F on GTCC's Jamestown Campus, weather permitting. As of Friday, 13 Oct., the weather prospects for this session are not favorable. The observatory will host a free public eclipse viewing session on Saturday, 14 Oct., from 11:30 a.m. These eclipses will appear as partial eclipses from the Triad. April 8 will generate much excitement throughout the U.S. When possible, Cline Observatory will hold free public viewing sessions for these events.
